Conducted at around 11 weeks of pregnancy, the Harmony Test is a non-invasive blood-test which screens for common genetic conditions including Down-Syndrome (trisomy 21), Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18) and Patau syndrome (trisomy 13). This test also provides the option to learn your baby’s gender at no extra charge.
The test requires a single blood draw and can be done once you have completed 10 weeks’ gestation.
While Dr Al-wasffi makes every attempt to be the obstetrician who delivers your baby and only works with a limited number of clients at a time, due to the unpredictable nature of babies’ arrivals there is the rare occasion where this is not possible.
In the event of Dr Al-wasffi being unable to attend to your delivery due to unforeseen circumstances, he will be backed up by another specialist obstetrician who has a similar style of practice.
Dr Al-wasffi priority is the safe arrival of your baby. During the course of your pregnancy, he will discuss with you the best option for delivery.
When engaging Dr Al-wasffi as your obstetrician you can select to deliver your baby in a public or private hospital. The hospitals Dr Al-wasffi works from include:
Most patients have one or two follow-up appointments after the arrival of their baby to touch base in regards to their postpartum health.
The cost of an obstetrician is partially covered by private health care. When you arrive for your first appointment, the costs involved, and standard payment requirements will be explained to you.
Dr Al-wasffi will go through your history and scan thoroughly to assess and recommend various options for reducing the impact of heavy periods. This can include different medical treatments, minor surgical procedure or radiological intervention, depending on which best suits your condition and circumstances.
Often a hysterectomy can be avoided and this procedure is reserved as a last option when other treatments fail.
Dr Al-wasffi can offer the Laparoscopic Hysterectomy through keyhole surgery which can result in better and quick postoperative recovery if needed.
The cervical screening test now detects the presence of the Human Papilloma Virus, which is responsible for the pre-cancerous changes in the cells of the cervix. If the results of your test are abnormal, your GP will refer you to a gynaecologist like Dr Al-wasffi, who will perform a colposcopy to help identify these changes on the cervix.
A minor procedure called large loop excision of the transformation zone or cone biopsy will be offered if an abnormality is found.
Dr Al-wasffi will explain everything that is involved with the procedure during your initial consultation and will take the time to answer any questions you may have.
Dr Abbas Al-wasffi and his multi-disciplinary team of specialists aims to offer professional and effective Obstetric & Gynaecological services to achieve the best clinical and lifestyle outcomes for his patients.
